Question:

Visiting a friend in Corpus Christi - Jellyfish?

I'm going to be visiting a friend in Corpus Christi in the next couple of weeks. I'm really excited, except for one thing - We'll definitely be going to the beach, and I'm TERRIFIED of jellyfish! I've never been there before, so I don't know if the jellies are bad or not there, I'm really scared I'm going to get stung! Are there a lot of jellyfish? Do a lot of people get stung?

Has anyone been there this time of year before?

Thanks so much for your help!

  1. I never had problems really!  Best thing to do is make sure you wear some type of water shoes.  I'm sure they have signs posted for bad spots also.  Not very common were alot of people are though.

  2. Corpus doesn't have the dangerous kind. They can sting you if you touch their bottom side, but it doesn't hurt too bad. They call them 'Cabbageheads'.

Look out for Man-o-War. They are like a purpleish fried pie shaped balloon that floats and has long thin tentacles that burn like fire if you contact them.

You always have to beware of Stingrays so when you're walking in the water shuffle your feet rather than picking them up to take steps. This stirs up the sand and scares away the Stingrays. Ask your friend. He should know about these creatures. It's not really as bad as it might sound, so have a good time.
