  1. Your drivers license will get you in to the border towns for a cerveza.

The problem is returning to the U.S.A.

Best to get a passport asap June 2009 is rapidly approaching.

For now you need proof of your status when returning.

  2. No, the second piece of ID has to be proof of citizenship.  The Social Security card doesn't do that.

  3. "Tonalc" is right...and you need to read this site.  You must have a photo I.D. and a proof of citizenship...EITHER a passport OR a birth certificate.  If you do not hae a birth certificate and don't know the specific office to contact, just enter the "name of the state where you were born, birth certificates"   in the search bar...like this example..."llinois, birth certificates".  it will then give you the contact info for the place to req. birth cert. from.

  4. If you are driving into Mexico isnt the problem for the Passport, its returning to the USA that requires the Passport. If you dont have one you dont get back in! So even though you are not required to have a passport to enter Mexico if you are planning on returning home you will need one.  Also make sure you get your tourist Visa when you enter Mexico, I was just there and I had to show mine several times and I was only there for five days.  Best of LUCK!

  5. you just might since you can't spell worth beans ...I wouldn't let you in

  6. Mexican tourist information services (tel: 800 446 39 42, 800 482 98 32)

Got that number from the site posted below. For something like that I'd be asking official authorities not strangers on the net just to be sure.

Also just so you know (which you might already) there's a high travel warning for Mexico at the moment. I'm heading on a tour this month which had a day trip to Mexico which they've just cancelled because of criminal activity, something to do with drug lords fighting it out.
