Question:

Vista Wireless issue

I have a week old Gateway Laptop running Vista. For the first few days I had it it connected to the internet effortlessly, but virtually overnight it began to malfunction. Now my laptop can "connect" to a wireless network, but not the internet! I have tried every single option in the "Diagnose and Repair" option( except for plugging in the Ethernet cable, which pretty much defeats the purpose of WIRELESS).

Can anyone help?

  1. I have a gateway and I had the same problem. Call Gateway customer service. They are the best.

  2. Hi FLam

Make sure that the SSID on the wireless router is the same as on the wireless. Or keep the WEP disabled. If you keep it open, you will have to supply a SSID and a password so that the wireless can have access.

Open network connections afterwards, you should see the name of the computer SSID

  3. If your laptop shows that it can connect to a wireless network, then basically it shows that the connection between the computer and router is okay. try to call up your router's manufacturer for this to check on the connection of your router to your modem. this will give you an idea if the problem is between the connection of your modem and router or the Internet connection itself.
