Ok, so it starts going normal, says I can enter setup and something else. It then says windows suffered an unsuccessful shutdown. Gives me 4 options, safe mode, safe mode + networking, safe mod + cmd prompt, normal mode. Which ever I do, it begins to login, says microsoft coroporation, loads, then just goes to a black screen, where I can move my mouse, I tried letting it load for 5 minutes, didn't work. Tried starting with last known good config, didn't work. Tried turning comp off for 5 mins to cool down, didn't work, any ideas?

  1. Hello

I suggest you test the computer registry documents were damaged, may lead to your question

You need to repair clean up the registry documents.

    http://www.Easy-PC-Optimizer.info

    You can solve the problem

  2. Ideally you should also get one more option which is "last known good configuration". Try that if you have ot else, let's move on.

Did you change anything when this happened (new software installation; any file deletion / copying /movement from one directory to another OR any hardware changes like memory addition or drivers installation for a new peripheral) If any answer is Yes, then that issue need to be isolated and we'll take ot from there. Else let's move on

Try a repair install, which means use the Vista bootable CD and repair the OS, if this does not help then

Try parallel install> installation in a different drive or directory

If you have legal version then call Microsoft Support on 1-800-936-4900. If issue turns out to be that os Microsoft, they would not charge you, else you will be charged.

If you are getting the login prompt, it means the OS itself is loading fine. It appears like explorer is not starting on start-up

Try this - Boot the computer normally.

Enter your login credentials. Let the screen go blank for few min (This is so that initial processes run fine)

Then Press Ctrl + Alt + Del

    Select "Task Manager"

    Go to File Menu

    Click New Task

    Either type explorer or

Manually look up "Computer". Right click, click on "search"

If this brings up the screen for you, something might be preventing you from running explorer. Try running one of anti-malware like http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php (get latest updates before scanning) and see if something is preventing explorer from starting

Also look at start-up options and may be add explorer to start-up

I would recommend removing any externally attached USB devices and try rebooting if none of the above works.

E-mail me if you need further help

    Good luck!
