JVC's support and website are useless, Microsoft's website is useless. Anyone have any work arounds. I just bought this camera less than 18 months ago...

When trying to load video on Windows Video Maker I keep getting the following error: "Import Video can find a compatable device."

  1. (to add to previous answer)

I say this often and can't stress it enough, but plugging in a camera while it is on will blow a fuse and make capturing not work. This is a possible cause.

Another more likely cause, apart from the ones named above, is that Windows Movie Maker is a fairly simple program and some cameras are just not compatible. I use Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut Pro and some cameras always take a little bit of tweaking to make it work. Probable cause, however, is what the previous answer said.

  2. The error message seems like you are trying to use USB - not firewire.

Or... you are using Vista Home Edition and the Firewire drivers for the firewire port in your computer were not loaded - or not loaded properly.

Or... the camera is not in Play/Edit mode.

  3. idk either, but i would like to know, ugh ive been working months on this problem!

  4. To expand a bit on the drivers not being loaded - go into Device Manager (Control Panel / System / Hardware)

Expand the IEEE1394 Bus host controllers, right click on your  device and uninstall it.  If it's not there to start with, you've got a problem!

    Shut down your PC.

Connect the camcorder, switch it to play and reboot your PC.  You should see messages coming up as the card and then the camcorder are detected.
