Question:

Vistaril 50 mg works, but it's too strong...should I ask for 25 mg instead?

I take it as needed for anxiety (usually once every several days). I feel the benefits within 20 minutes of taking it, but it also makes me feel a bit "zombified" and sleepy. I think I have taken 25 mg before and it worked well, but the sleepy effect didn't hit until three hours afterwards. (Also on Dilantin for seizure disorder).

  1. Speak to your Dr. I see no reason to lower the dose as long as 25 works, why take more than you need. Also you have to worry about the side effect (sleepiness) which keeps you from being able to do things you need to do. If you MUST have 50mg maybe he can split it up, 25mg in the morning and 25mg at bedtime. Talk to your Dr.

  2. Sad to hear that, but then again the best solution to that is to seek a professional help.

  3. Definitely discuss it with your doctor. The smallest amount of medicine that is effective is always preferred because it lowers the chance of side effects(in this case drowsiness).

  4. Probably but consult your doctor first.
