Vita Marissa-Nadya Melati penetrate into Women’s Doubles quarter-final of French Open Super Series
Indonesia’s Vita Marissa and Nadya Melati penetrate into Women’s Doubles quarter-final as they have won the round-of-16 battle against Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao of Singapore in the 2011 French Open Super Series, in France, on Thursday, October 27.
Marissa and Melati played to their maximum potential and emerged as the winners against the Singaporean duo in a tough three-set fight which lasted for 62 minutes. Both sides played top class badminton and entertained the crowd with their elite skills.
The Indonesians took the opening set and established a good lead on their opponents. However, the Singaporeans played superb game in the second set and levelled the match by winning it. In the deciding game, the Indonesian duo played well in the concluding
phase and managed to win the match.
In the first set, both sides snapped each other’s heels by playing fast and positive game. The score was also close until the end of the first half. However, the Indonesians managed to put pressure on their challengers after the break.
Marissa and Melati accelerated their speed and established a reasonable lead in the game by playing attacking game. They won the first set in a convincing way with the score of 21-17.
In the second set, the Singaporeans put up tremendous show by playing wonderful game. They dominated the pace of the rallies by employing powerful smashes and net killings. Their finishing touch was impressive as they missed no chance to earn points. The
Indonesians failed to stop the aggression of their opponents in the ending points and lost the set with a margin of 18-21.
In the third set, both pairs remained close in the opening half and continued playing in the similar way after the break. The French fans could not have asked for more thrilling fight as both sides remained close until the final points of the set.
At this crucial stage, Marissa and Melati employed their experience and scored the ending points and won the set by a 21-18 score on the board. The end result of this superb three-set fight was 21-17, 18-21 and 21-18.
