Vitali Klitschko: David Haye a boxing mouthpiece, too comfortable to fight Klitschkos
WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko sat in on a recent Ringside program with Ed Robinson to talk about WBA champion David Haye. Klitschko summed Haye up by saying he talks too much and that his decision to avoid him and brother Wladimir was a political
ploy to remain champion.
“You know, David Haye talks too much,” Klitschko assessed. “David Haye understands; he’s smart enough to understand that he’s a world champion—so long as he doesn’t fight the Klitschkos. A fight against a Klitschko—Wladimir or Vitali—means he will be knocked
out.”
Vitali confessed that Haye possesses formidable skills in the heavyweight division, the best of which are his speed, ability to move around the ring, and strength. At the same time, Klitschko said Haye isn’t fast enough for him and his brother, or significantly
strong enough, to pose a serious threat.
"David Haye has good speed, but not so much speed to be quicker than the Klitschkos. David Haye doesn't have the power to knock out Wladimir or Vitali—but the Klitschkos both have speed and power. Let's go, champion against champion, see who is the strongest
one. We have talked so long, the audience has waited so long... let's do it.”
The Klitschkos have tried to engage Haye in the past, after Haye accused them of not challenging legitimate competition. All talks of fight terms have been unsuccessful, with Haye saying that the Klitschkos are not treating him equally as a champion. He
contends a deal will not be made until he is treated with financial parity.
At a press conference in April 2009, Haye infuriated the brothers by showing up in a t-shirt depicting himself holding the heads of both Klitschkos. At the same conference, when asked if he disliked Wladimir Klitschko, Haye said, “Yes I have a personal
dislike for Wladimir. He sucks, he’s c**p. I don’t like his style, I don’t like what he represents.”
