Vitali Klitschko: I feel like I am twenty five years old – Boxing News
Contrary to the usual, WBC world heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko personalized his recent conference in Moscow. The elder Klitschko spoke about being a forty one year old champion, if he will ever fight David Haye and his future plans.
When asked how does he feel on being a 41-year-old champion, Vitali asserted, ““As for my age, I do not feel it. I feel like I’m twenty-five years old. Maybe this is the impact of a healthy lifestyle, which I have always led.”
“Of course, I can not fully objectively evaluate [my] condition. Maybe somewhere I became worse, but for myself it’s gone unnoticed. The first person to tell me that it’s time to stop will be [trainer] Fritz Sdunek.”
“We have a clear agreement on this, and I have absolute trust in Fritz.”
Vitali’s trainer Fritz was present at the event too. According to Fritz, Vitali has only gotten better with age unlike Holyfield, who is older than Vitali but is not the same boxer he once was.
“Vitali is like wine – with age he only becomes better. I do not really understand how he did it … Holyfield continues to box at a much more advanced age than Vitali, but has not kept the same level, the quality of his boxing has sharply decreased,” said
Fritz.
As of now, Vitali Klitschko is currently scheduled to face Emanuel Charr. The fight is supposedly going to be the last of Vitali’s career, raising doubts on him facing UK fighter David Haye next year. However, Vitali’s manager revealed last month that the
Ukrainian champion may face Haye depending on his fight against Charr goes.
Vitali is optimistic that he will be beat Charr and cement his legacy as one of the best fighters of the heavyweight division. On the other hand, David Haye is looking forward to a showdown against Vitali Klitschko soon. Haye dreams on being the last opponent
of Vitali’s career, defeating him and taking the title from him.
However, as of now, it seems Haye’s dreams might be shattered if Vitali calls it quit after Charr this year to pursue his political ambitions.
