Vitali Klitschko Retains World Boxing Council Title
Vitali Klitschko produced another flawless performance to stamp his authority on the World Boxing Council heavy weight class beating his United Kingdom based challenger Albert Sosnowski by technical knock-out on Saturday.
Klitschko continued to reign supreme in the category he has very much won, as he proved that taking the belt away from him would be no mean feat.
His comfortable win ended the Sosnowski’s bid to become his country's first heavyweight champion.
The boxer, who hails from Poland, was totally overawed by his experienced opponent who was all over him in the last few rounds, unearthing a barrage of punches that Sosnowski had no answer to.
Towering over his lighter opponent, Klitschko clinched a successful defence of his WBC title when the fight was stopped in the 10th round.
The champion was expectedly elated with his win "Of course, the strongest one won. I am very pleased that I was the stronger today," Klitschko said.
Vitali defended the fighting skills of his opponent saying he needed more experience.
"Before the fight, I said that many people would criticize and say that Albert Sosnowski is not a big name. You make a big name by fighting and with skill. Today he showed very good skill: It was not easy to fight against him. In his eyes and the eyes are the window to the soul, I saw hunger and desire. He wants to fight, he wants to win and today he did not have enough experience."
The 38-year-old Ukrainian was the dominant force through out the fight, showing steely determination and grit to cow down his opponent.
Sosnowski was left with little options forced into working to the body after failing to connect to the head.
The two fought their bout in front of some 60,000 cheering spectators in Schalke 04's soccer stadium in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
The towering Klitschko kept his opponent at bay with an outstretched left arm throughout much of the bout.
He sealed his triumph by launching a barrage of punches that baited the challenger before he hammered the shorter man down to the canvas with an explosive combination that ended the fight.
With his Klitschko now has a total of 40 victories from 42 fights with two defeats.
After completing his win, the powerful Ukrainian claimed that the belt is his and no one can take it away from him.
"I am extremely pleased to be able to prove again today that I am the strongest in the worked and I am very proud of this belt. I am very pleased to have this belt and I want to say again - there is nobody who can take this belt away from me.
At the moment there is nobody in the world. And I will prove again in my next fights that there is a reason that I have the belt that has had many great champions."
Speaking after the fight Sosnowski said Klitschko had been the stronger and blamed a recent switch in trainer for certain weaknesses.
"And yes, why this result. I think it is because I had a pretty short training phase with my new trainer and I haven't yet totally adjusted the way that I fight. But what I can take form this is the huge experience in a bout and I will use this and I will come back and fight again for the title," he said.
Meanwhile a beaming Klitschko offered his congratulations to the German teenager who won the Eurovision Song Contest.
The contest was won by Lena who took the trophy for Germany just as Klitschko's fight was underway.
Klitschko may now turn his attention to Britain's David Haye, who holds the WBA title.
Besides Vitali the Klitschko family boasts off another champion in his brother Vladimir who has in his grip the WBO, IBF and IBO belts.
