Vitali Klitschko to give David Haye six months to sign for fight
Vitali Klitschko continues to push David Haye into a corner to try to get some action out of him.
The WBC heavyweight champion, fresh off a brutal demolition of challenger Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs last weekend, said that the clocks are ticking for WBA titlist Haye and that fighting him is now or
never. Otherwise Haye ought to admit to the world he’s simply “afraid,” said Klitschko.
Klitschko told Golzka: “The sports community, the fans, they have put a lot of pressure on Haye. He has no way out. He must either announce that he does not want to box against a Klitschko, thus admitting
the words 'yes, I am afraid of the Klitschko brothers’—which, in my opinion— is worse than a defeat from going into the ring."
Klitschko confirmed that he would give Haye a six month period to decide on a fight following Haye's 13 November bout against European champion Audley Harrison, otherwise all offers would come off the
table. Should Haye not consider the offer, Vitali may try to get Nikolai Valuev in the ring, whom Haye dominated for his WBA title.
"I think in the next six months, we should at least get a response from Haye. I'm not going to wait a year or two. I suspect that for Nicholas [Valuev], boxing is already a secondary option. If he wants
to make a career in film—let him go in that direction. And if he wants to box, let him go box. I think this fight would be very interesting."
Haye has come under intense scrutiny from all sides recently, as some question why the inexperienced Dereck Chisora rather than he is signed on for a 11 December fight against Wladimir Klitschko, the WBO/IBF/IBO
champion. Apart from obviously dodging the Klitschkos, Haye has been accused of “short-changing” himself for fighting subpar competition. Wladimir and Vitali occupy spots one and two in most world rankings, while Haye is a close third.
