Vitali Klitschko vs. David Haye in jeopardy as the Ukrainian grabs parliamentary seats – Boxing News
It seems like Briton fighter David Haye might not face his dream opponent WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Since Vitali’s party UDAR (Punch) came out third in the country’s general election, the WBC champion has secured around 15% of the seats
in the parliament. In other words, it might be the end of Vitali’s boxing career and a start of his political one.
Vitali is not happy with the results, as he believes his party could have won more votes. On the other hand, even David Haye would not be pleased to know the fact that Vitali might not fight ever again. Good news for Haye is that the WBO is considering to
name him the number one contender to face Wladimir Klitschko. Although Haye has already fallen to Wladimir, he still would be excited if the WBO makes such an announcement, since he is dreaming to grab a world heavyweight title at any cost.
“First of all, I have to win the parliament election. Step by step by step. After that, I can give you an answer,” asserted Vitali before his engagement against German fighter Manuel Charr.
“Right now, there are many discussions about [retirement]. I’m not ready to announce about my retirement. Maybe one fight, maybe two fights more. And after that, I am retired. I am active in politics.”
Even though Vitali believes his boxing career might not yet be over, his manager Bernd Boente thinks otherwise. Boente had earlier announced that if Vitali gets political success through which he can ‘make a difference’, the Ukrainian champion would retire.
For now, Vitali is not certain as to whether he will hang up his gloves or not. He still wants to test the water before announcing his retirement. If he chooses to face David Haye, the fight will happen sometime in March or April.
On the other hand, if Vitali chooses to retire, then Haye would face Wladimir Klitschko, who is much more dangerous than his older brother is. Either way, Haye would get a title shot, which he believes he deserves after he knocked out Dereck Chisora earlier
this year.
