Vitalia Diatchenko demolishes Ana Vrljic in second qualifying round – Generali Ladies Linz 2011
Russian tennis player Vitalia Diatchenko eased past Ana Vrljic of Croatia 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday, 9th October to advance into the final qualifying round of 2011 Generali Ladies Linz in Austria. Diatchenko looked in commanding
form as she required only 49 minutes dispatching her opponent.
Ranked 128th in the world, Diatchenko will be very pleased with the way she played and of course, she will be looking to achieve similar results in the upcoming matches of the Women’s Tennis Association tournament. In
the first round play, the Russian ousted number four Marina Erakovic. To make it all the way to the final stages of the competition, she will be looking to bring more consistency in her game play.
Diatchenko’s strong and accurate serving proved to be the main difference between the two players as she hit 73 per cent first serves. Converting 74 per cent of the points on her first serves, she took control of long rallies and
then she placed her ferocious forehand and backhand winners all over the court. Returning her opponent’s serves with ease, she secured 64 per cent of the total points at the receiving end.
Converting six out of seven break points in the match, Diatchenko made most of the available opportunities. If she can maintain her current level of play for the entire week, she will have great chance to win her first ever title
at the WTA level.
Vrljic will be disappointed with her overall effort in the match. The Croat struggled to get her first serves in as she hit only a mere 43 per cent first serves. Her defence was also out of shape, as she struggled to get some of
the easy balls. It will not be wrong to say that she was outplayed in almost every aspect of the game. World number 340, Vrljic will be hoping to learn from her mistakes and come back stronger on her next appearance on the tour.
Diatchenko made a very strong start to the match as she broke serve in very first game of the opening set. Holding on to her serve games comfortably, she established complete control over the contest. Hitting a blazing serve ace,
she bagged the opening set in a blink of an eye.
The Russian continued her onslaught in second set as well as she did not allow her rival to breath. Breaking her opponent’s serve thrice, she closed out the match in straight sets to move ahead in the qualifying draw.
