Vitalia Diatchenko gets rid off Ekaterina Bychkova in second qualifying round – Kremlin Cup 2011
World number 128 Vitalia Diatchenko got the better of world number 169 Ekaterina Bychkova in the second qualifying round of the Kremlin Cup 2011. The two players battled it out on indoor hard courts of the Olympic Stadium, Moscow.
After one hour and twenty four minutes the higher ranked Diatchenko thrashed the lower ranked Bychkova in straight sets of 6-4, 6-2.
The first round of the match was initiated Diatchenko, who had just won the service toss and rotated the scoreboard to 1-0 by holding her serve. She then capitalized on an early break in the second game and placed herself on the
scoreboard with a 2-0 lead. It was in the third game that Bychkova made a return and that too by breaking back to reduce the deficit to 1-2. As the lower ranked Russian held her serve in the fourth game, the scoreboard had tied at 2-2.
The players matched a blow for a blow and the scoreboard tied at 3-3 as the two expertly held serve in the fifth and the sixth game. The scoreboard was once again brought to a gridlock at 4-4 as the two broke each other back-to-back
in the seventh and the eighth game. During the last two games, Diatchenko capitalized on a lucky break and as she held serve in the tenth game, she clogged the opening set with a 6-4 victory and was now one up in the match.
The second set of the match was again initiated by Diatchenko and once again she took the lead on the scoreboard at 2-0 with a hold of serve and then by breaking her adversary in the second game. As she held serve in the third
game, she further increased the lead to a 3-0 on the scoreboard and by breaking her adversary for the second time, she was now standing with a walloping 4-0 lead against her adversary.
It was in the fifth game that Bychkova tried to make a return by breaking back and then held her serve in the sixth game to move the scoreboard to 4-2 score with Diatchenko leading the set. Amidst the last two games, Diatchenko
capitalized from the third break point and by smashing a marvellous crosscourt shot sealed her victory of the set and the match.
Diatchenko was able to secure a place in final qualies where she will be facing the fourth seeded French Alize Cornet.
