Vitaly Petrov: Renault looking for another top ten finish in upcoming Korean GP – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Vitaly Petrov is looking forward to another top ten finish in the upcoming Korean Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place on October 16, 2011.
Petrov said that the team’s target was to finish the Japanese race weekend ahead of Force India, which they successfully achieved.
The Russian driver discussed the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix and mentioned that when he put on the soft tyres by Pirelli in the closing laps of the race, he felt a lot of grip on his R31 car and pushed a lot until the end of the Grand Prix as well.
In addition, he stated that he still does not know how he overtook many cars towards the end of the race after switching to the soft tyres.
He further discussed the last moment of the race and added that Sergio Perez of Sauber was quite far ahead of him and due to that, he could not overtake him.
Petrov commented, “We started on the medium tyre and I did all I could to maintain position at the start as those around me were on the soft. I suffered a lot of wheelspin, so with this tyre it was actually a pretty good start - if I was on the soft I would
have gained places.”
He went on to mention, “During the race it was difficult to tell how the strategy was working and it was a challenge for the first two stints fighting against those on softer tyres.”
The 27-year-old driver did not have a good start to the 2011 Japanese race weekend, as he was unable to finish his FP1, FP2 and final Practice session on the grid on a decent note. After starting the race from the tenth position at the Suzuka racetrack,
he came at the ninth place for his team in the final race classifications.
After taking ninth position in the Japanese race weekend, Petrov is placed at the ninth place with 36 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
The next round of the 2011 Formula 1 season will take place this weekend.
Let’s see how Petrov manages his 2011 Korean Grand Prix after scoring points in the Japanese race.
