Vitaly Petrov is feeling delighted and esteemed at Caterham – Formula 1 news
Vitaly Petrov says that he is feeling extremely delighted and esteemed being at Caterham.
He expressed that Caterham was ready to listen to him as soon as he tied up with the team. Furthermore, Petrov also admired his new teammate, Heikki Kovalainen.
First ever Russian driver in Formula 1, Vitaly Petrov, who has replaced Jarno Trulli in Caterham, is the last confirmed driver of the upcoming 2012 season.
Petrov asserted that when he was in Renault team (present Lotus), it took him about a year to feel at ease within the team but after coming to Caterham he instantly felt quite valued by the team.
“First of all when I came to this team I was really surprised how they were listening to me and there was something expected from what I would say,” Petrov said. “So we started to work very close to each other. You need to understand this is not a big team
at the moment; it's still a small team so you don't have parts where you can bring them straight away or if you ask today, tomorrow it will be here. So I think step-by-step they will get there but just need some times.”
Petrov signed up with Caterham just four days before the start of second pre-season test at Barcelona.
Petrov stated that it will be quite difficult for him to compete with his new teammate, Kovalainen, who entirely outperformed Trulli in 2011. However, Petrov honoured the efforts of his new teammate in leading the team forward.
Petrov feels that his teammate will surely give him tough time in the upcoming season. However, he said that they have already started to work together and he is very pleased to work with Kovalainen. Moreover, he said that if they will continue to work together
like this, they can make improvements for the team in future.
Furthermore, Petrov has expressed that he has a point to prove after leaving the Renault team after two seasons, last year. He earnestly hopes that the things will get fine in the future and he will be able to do well for his team along with his teammate.
