Vitaly Petrov says Renault must resolve issues before upcoming German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Vitaly Petrov has said that his team will have to resolve issues which they had in the recently held Silverstone race weekend for the upcoming German Grand Prix.
Petrov believes that his team can bounce back on the grid if they have a perfect package in the second half of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Renault had a below par race weekend at the Silverstone racetrack recently, as both of the drivers were unable to finish their good run on the grid. After qualifying in 14th place for the British Grand Prix, Petrov finished in 12th
place in the race.
His teammate Nick Heidfeld had a close fight with Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher and Sauber’s Sergio Perez for a few laps and finally finished at the 8th place for the team.
The Silverstone race results were unsatisfactory for Renault, as they were expecting some productive run from both of their drivers in the British Grand Prix.
The Russian told the media that his team is still working on their R31 car since the Silverstone race. In addition, he said that Renault delivered some new upgrades in their new car, which will be tested during the Friday Free Practice sessions in Nürburgring
this weekend.
Talking to the reporters, Petrov said, “The weather can be quite changeable there, which will again have an impact but the main thing we need is a strong set-up for the car. As usual, aerodynamic efficiency will be the key.”
The 26-year-old driver went on to mention, “It (the car) hasn't performed at the level we know it can, and it has been off the pace for a few races now so we must get it right quickly to turn our season around. Additionally, it's very important we reach
Q3 in qualifying so that we can score more points come Sunday afternoon.”
The Enstone-based outfit driver stated that the team will have to show better performance in the qualifying round at the German racetrack, so they must focus towards it for the remainder of the season.
The tenth round of the ongoing season will take place on July 24, 2011 in Nürburgring. Let’s see how Renault perform over there after a disappointing British Grand Prix.
