Vitaly Petrov set to remain in Caterham for 2013 – Formula 1 news

Vitaly Petrov is set to remain in Caterham for the 2013 Formula 1 season, according to a Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat.
The Leafield based squad has signed a new deal with Charles Pic for the next season. However, there is still a vacancy for one driver in the team and Petrov is looking forward to stay for the next season.
Meanwhile, and Petrov’s manager, Oksana Kosachenko has expressed that they have done all the required work and the remaining decision is totally depend upon Caterham.
“All the necessary work on our part is done — and it’s for Caterham to decide,” Kosachenko said.
It will be important to mention that there are many drivers which have been seen as potential replacement of Petrov’s teammate, Heikki Kovalainen and the list mainly include, Giedo van der Garde, Luiz Razia and Bruno Senna.
Nevertheless, Kosachenko has said that the Russian driver performed tremendously well in the season finale held at Interlagos and secured 10th place finish which has made his position stronger as compared to his competitors for the next season.
“I believe Vitaly’s race in Brazil securing tenth place in the manufacturers’ championship helps us to stay where we were,” Kosachenko told Turun Sanomat.
The 28-year-old could not score even a single point in this season and secured 19th place finish in the drivers’ championship. Besides, he stood ahead of Marussia driver, Timo Glock and behind Toro Rosso drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric
Ricciardo.
It is to be noted that the chief executive officer of F1, Bernie Ecclestone has insisted that there should be at least one local driver in the field at the opening race in Russia which is expected to be held in 2014.
Presently, the organisers of the Russian Grand Prix are working really hard to construct the new circuit in Sochi. Furthermore, the project will be mainly supported by the government with some significant input of some private companies too. Additionally,
it will be interesting to mention that Red Bull Racing will also back up the project financially.
Let’s see whether Petrov will be able to stay at Caterham or not.
