Vitaly Petrov vows to perform at his best
Renault driver Vitaly Petrov is determined to give a perfect performance at this weekend’s Korean Grand Prix as he will try his best to hold on to his seat as a Renault driver next year. Vitaly vowed that he will rule out all the errors he has been making
and try to cope up with his teammate Robert Kubica.
Petrov clipped Nico Hulkenberg at the start of the Japanese Grand Prix and was forced to retire as his car was damaged vitally and he could not continue the race. As a result, he has been slapped with a five-place grid penalty for the Korean Grand Prix but
is still confident he can finish in the points as long as he avoids making any errors.
“I always try to be in the top ten and that must be the target this weekend. I think we had the potential to do this in Suzuka, but I need to make sure I don't make any mistakes. Scoring points is important and that will be my aim in Korea,” he said.
He believes that driving on a completely new circuit was an advantage for him as a rookie since he will be starting from the same experiences level on the track as the rest of the drivers.
“The best thing is to walk the track and see it for yourself. Then, I like to do some laps on my bike to understand as much as I can. You have to look at things like the kerbs and the run-off areas,” Petrov said.
All this information is quite helpful but obviously, the drivers will learn the most about the track during the first free practice session this Friday. It is going to be important to know that lap by the end of the first session and all that the drivers
have done is some simulation work to them learn the tracks breaking points and environment. Since the Korean International circuit is a new circuit, Petrov thinks that this will make life a bit easier for him as everybody will go through the same situation
that he is going through.
After Bernie announced that there will be a Russian Grand Prix on the 2014 calendar, Vitaly believes that his chances of staying in the F1 are more now and he said that he is hoping to be on the grid for the inaugural race in his country.
Vitaly Petrov is currently in 13th place with just 19 points. One has to admit, that he has not been performing as good as his teammate and Vitaly is just another Formula 1 driver who is just buying some time in the sport. Since the beginning
of the season, Petrov has not been able to give a memorable performance and he does not have anything extra ordinary to offer. On the other hand, his teammate Robert Kubica has been giving astonishing performances keeping in mind Renault is not one of the
best teams on the grid. Robert Kubica is currently in 8th place with 114 points; just 8 points behind Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes.
Obviously, both of them are driving the same piece of machinery with almost the same configuration. However, Vitaly Petrov has not been able to impress his team in anyway and he has been struggling vitally in his debut season. Renault is a championship winning
team and Vitaly Petrov is clearly not the sort of driver the team is looking for. Nevertheless, the Russian driver still has a chance to prove himself as he has 3 races to go in this season with Renault. Renault has not made any decisions regarding the 2011
signings so the seat is still open for any driver.
“I'm very proud that my country has made this decision, which will make F1 even more popular in Russia. Almost all the drivers already have a home race so I hope that I can experience the same special feeling of racing at home in a few years' time,” said
Petrov.
