Vitaly Petrov’s manager Oksana Kossatchenko says Russia lacks Formula 1 culture – Formula 1 news
Vitaly Petrov’s manager Oksana Kossatchenko has recently stated that Russia lacks Formula 1 culture keeping in mind that the Russian Grand Prix is expected to take place in 2014.
The 2014 Formula 1 calendar will host the Russian Grand Prix at a track in Sochi which will be built way before its desired date. However, building a track and grandstands is not enough to attract people and have them spend some money over a sport which
has not been introduced to the country culturally.
“In Russia, this is a different country and a different culture. The problem with organising it is not only the construction of the circuit, but I'm really concerned about the preparation of the audience. I will tell you, we don't have any specialised media
in Russia which is specifically dedicated to motorsports,” Kossatchenko told the media.
Russia does have a lot of Formula 1 fans and since Vitaly Petrov became a part of the sport, the fan base increased noticeably but still the country does not have any sort of setup for Motorsports and the people in Russia are not as emotional and determined
about the sport as they are in England and other European countries.
“At the moment we don't have it; if you don't have media you can't have an audience, and if you don't have an audience, why should you prepare the grandstands if you will have empty grandstands?” he said.
He added that the organisers of the Russian Grand Prix will have to take a few steps before introducing the sport in the country. They would have to prepare the media and the audience in order to prepare even more Russian drivers from the sport as a result
of which, the fans in Russia will also get the point of Formula 1.
Currently, Russia does not have any sort of infrastructure for any sort of Motorsport which makes it even more difficult for the organisers to prepare the audience for what Formula 1 has to offer especially during its live race events.
