Question:

Vitamin B6 and Luteal Phase?

Hi Ladies. I am new to charting but here's what I know:

My Luteal Phase is 11-12 days long, but the last day of my LP I have spotting, which is not super great. I would like to lengthen it by a day or two.

I currently take a prenatal that already has about 100MG of B6. This month, after ovulation, I started taking an additional 50 MG of B6 to see if it will help (it is in the form of a B complex vitamin).

I have heard conflicting things about whether you should take extra B6 during the first half of your cycle. The first half of my cycle is GREAT and I don't want to mess with it.

My question is this: Should I back off the B complex vitamin for the first half of my cycle, and only take it during my LP to help lengthen it? It seems my prenatals have enough where I don't necessarily need the B complex the first half of my cycle.

  1. battling with a similar problem here, my LP was about 7-9 days.  I  took 50 mg after ovulation last month till AF came and it didn't seem to help.

this month I have been taking 100mg from the first day of my period and I've detected my ovulation around day 14-16.  I am getting some promising symptoms but I'm not going to be pining my hopes on anything yet.  I'm waiting for test day.

I'm not sure how it will effect your cycle if you take too much though.

    Good Luck and babydust.

  2. My luteal phase was only 7-8 days. I started taking 100 mg of B6 (2 50 mg pills) just after I ovulated last month and it stretched my luteal phase to 12 days. I have been taking it all this cycle and just ovulated today so I am hoping for a longer LP this month. I would suggest just taking B6 instead of a B complex. It didn't mess with the first half of my cycle so I just took it all along. Hope my experience helps.

Good luck and baby dust to you.

  3. I do think that you should only take it during your LP if you are going to take it at all.  Prenatals have enough to supplement and there are a lot of studies about this to make me not want to get involved with it.

    Best wishes to you!
