Vitantonio Liuzzi: Malaysian Grand Prix will be lot different than Australian GP – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team’s Tonio Liuzzi has said that his team will be in a much better position to qualify for the Malaysian Grand Prix than it was for the Australian GP.
The team was unable to get its new car ready during the pre-season testing period and as a result, they were unable to test it either. The new car was revealed minutes before the Australian GP and they were unable to test it even during the free practice
sessions of the first race of the season.
However, since the car has been released and tested by the team now, Tonio is confident that their new car is going to be in a much better position for the second race as compared to when it was before the Australian GP.
“We will have lots of new parts on the car, the proper front nose and wing, some better rear dampers - we have a lot of things to change for Malaysia. So I think we will be in much better shape,” Tonio told the media.
Nevertheless, he warned that since Sepang is a downforce dependant track with high-speed corners, it is going to be quite difficult to get within 107 per cent for a back marker team.
“I think things will be different there but, unfortunately, if I was to say at the beginning of the year which track would be worst for the 107% rule I would have said Malaysia because of its characteristics,” he added.
He stated that the most important thing is to test as much as they can in order to debug the F111 after evaluating its performance.
Tonio believes that racking up some kilometres on the team’s new car is very important before the Malaysian Grand Prix in order to at least qualify for the race.
His teammate Narain Karthikeyan also stated that the team respects the 107 per cent rule and believe when they understand their new car fully, they are going to surprise the spectators with their performance.
