Vitantonio Liuzzi claims Hispania Racing Team have the potential to defeat Lotus – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team driver Vitantonio Liuzzi has said that the team has the potential to defeat Team Lotus in the constructors’ standings in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 championship.
Liuzzi said in order to do that, the team will have to unlock some potential from its car which according to him is quite promising.
“A lot of people didn't believe we would come through at the beginning of the year but I have always been really positive. As I have said on many occasions, there are good people involved in this project and the potential is there. If we work in the right
direction, I'm sure we can achieve good things,” he said.
The team is quite clearly struggling to perform once again this year as they are off the pace of both of their rivals, Virgin Racing Team and Team Lotus.
These three back-running teams of the sport recently joined Formula 1 in 2010 and since then, Lotus have been the best team in terms of pace. Neither of them has been able to secure a single point though but Liuzzi claims that HRT have a lot of potential
and the team is hoping for big results in the future.
“I never doubted that there was potential for improvement, obviously we are not expecting to win races but to be where we are already is proof of the strength of the project. If you believe in yourself and in the project then you can achieve anything,” he
added.
Liuzzi used to drive for Force India in 2010 and with his experience, the team was hoping for some improvements in terms of both pace and statistics. However, the team is still where it was last year which is a good sign for the team because many believed
that HRT might not even be a part of the sport in 2011.
Currently, Team Lotus are in 10th place in the constructors’ standings and they are looking quite promising as they have qualified in Q2 a number of times while HRT are still nowhere near their current pace.
