Vitantonio Liuzzi talks about uncertain future with HRT for the 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Vitantonio Liuzzi has admitted his future with Hispania Racing Team may be in jeopardy for the 2012 season.
Liuzzi hold a contract with HRT until the end of 2012 season, and had earlier maintained that he will retain his race seat with the team through 2012.
However, the Italian driver has revealed that in fact he might not be able to race for HRT in 2012 after all.
Liuzzi had a poor season racing with HRT. He was not able to score any points or podiums and ended the season with a best position of 13th in the Canadian Grand Prix.
Although he was only part of the reason he performed so poorly during the season the blame also needs to be put on an uncompetitive car. HRT were not able to score a point throughout the season.
The end of the season saw HRT change its top management as Colin Kolles was replaced by Luis Perez-Sala.
Liuzzi said that the contract he signed was in agreement with the previous owner and now his future is uncertain for the upcoming season.
“It would have made no sense to sign with a team at this level on just a one year contract; you have to make it a project for the future,” he told Australian Motorsport News. “I have a contract to race next season with HRT but the agreement was concluded
with the previous owner and now the future is uncertain.”
HRT are speculated to be in talks with several drivers to partner with Pedro de la Rosa.
HRT will have a wide variety of options open to them to find replacements for Liuzzi as Rubens Barrichello, Adrian Sutil, Vitaly Petrov, Bruno Senna, Jaime Alguersuari, Nick Heidfeld and Sebastien Buemi amongst others are all drivers that are looking for
a race seat for the 2012 season.
It would be interesting to see whether HRT retain Liuzzi or find a replacement, it may come down to the driving bringing in the highest sponsorships as the trend of pay drivers has seen a major increase since the recession. The fans would love to see a driver
with higher skill who can instil some competition into the HRT camp.
