Vitesse Arnhem on verge of sacking Albert Ferrer – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports from GelreDome Stadion suggest that Vitesse Arnhem are about to sack their manager, Albert Ferrer, in the aftermath of a disastrous 2010/11 season. Vitesse finished 15th in the league table, a place above the relegation zone only because
of a superior goal difference.
Ferrer, the former Spanish International, started his managerial career at GelreDome Stadion in October 2010 when he replaced Theo Bos. Vitesse management was heavily criticized for their decision to appoint the Spaniard, but the 41-year-old confidently
replied all the critiques and believed that he can lead the side effectively. However, the tactician failed to guide his side to a respectable finish and his managerial career at GelreDome seems to be in danger.
Reports confirm that the former Barcelona player is yet to be informed by the club management regarding the status of his contract that runs until the summer of 2012.
The Dutch media recently revealed that Steve McClaren, the former England and FC Twente manager, is in talks with the Arnhem-based outfit and the appointment looks imminent. The 50-year-old tactician had earlier expressed his desire to return to Eredivisie.
Rumours were rife that the Englishman would be returning to De Grolsch Veste to take control of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Shabab-c38361 Riyadh.
However, the veteran tactician mooted all speculations linking him with the KNVB beker Cup winners.
Recent reports have confirmed that the British tactician would be leading http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitesse-c40905 in the 2011/12 season. Furthermore, the Englishman would be handed a 50 million Euros war chest to build a squad capable of challenging for multiple honours.
Ferrer and the club chairman, Merab Jordania, held talks recently about the future of the Spaniard. However, nothing was disclosed officially. The club statement said, “The conversation between Jordania and Ferrer found on short notice. There is nothing
to say now.”
It seems evident that the 41-year-old tactician would be leaving GelreDome Stadion in the coming days with McClaren taking control of the Arnhem outfit for the upcoming season.
