The former PSV Eindhoven boss expresses optimism ahead of his side’s return leg tie against Anzhi Makhachkala in the third qualifying round of Europa League, and reveals that his side can overturn the deficit at home.
Vitesse Arnhem head coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fred-c14136 Rutten, has expressed his confidence ahead of his side’s return leg clash against Anzhi Makhachkala in the third qualifying round of UEFA Europa League at GelreDome Stadion on Thursday, August 9.
The Russian outfit claimed a convincing 2-0 win in the first-leg to enhance their chances of progressing through to the next round of the competition.
Rutten, who took over the reins of the Arnhem-based club earlier this summer, has insisted that his side has claimed victories at GelreDome Stadion against better oppositions in the past, and they will be looking to replicate their
performances at home.
“If you look at the statistics, we have defeated several big teams in Arnhem, and we can do it once again. I have played against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281, and to tell you the truth, it was never easy playing against them in
Arnhem. Everything is possible. We just have to believe in it”, the former PSV boss was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
In addition, the Dutch trainer has insisted that his side performed brightly in the opening 45 minutes of the first-leg in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991.
“We gave nothing away until the hour mark. We created some decent opportunities, and kept the game under control”, Rutten added.
However, the tactician has admitted that his side failed to dominate proceedings after conceding the opening goal. Oleg Shatov broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute while Fedor Smolov sealed the win in favour of the
home side in the 74th minute.
“After 1-0, it was all experience and maturity. Anzhi have been playing in Europe regularly, and for quite some time now. For my players, it was a good learning experience”, Rutten concluded.
The outfit from Arnhem would be keen to overturn the two goals deficit in front of their home crowd, and make progression to the next phase of the Europe’s second tier competition.
