The 26-year-old central defender has played a vital role at the back for his side, convincing the club management to reward him with a new contract.
Reports from GelreDome Stadion confirm that Vitesse Arnhem centre-back, Frank van der Struijk, has put pen to a two-year contract extension.
The 26-year-old’s ongoing contract was due to expire at the end of the 2011/12 campaign, but his new contract will keep him in Arnhem until the summer of 2014.
Van der Struijk arrived at GelreDome Stadion at the start of 2008/09 season after making 109 appearances for Willem II Tilburg. But he failed to make an impact in the Arnhem outfit squad, and was loaned to his former club in the second-half of the 2009/10
season.
The central defender, who can also play at the right-back position, impressed many with his consistent performances in the 2010/11 campaign, and his impressive form has not dropped a bit coming into the ongoing season.
His solid showings at the back convinced the club management to reward him with a new and improved contract that will extend his stay with Vitesse. The 26-year-old expressed joy after signing the new contract.
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Willem-II-c40945. But when I came back, I thought that this is the time to prove myself. I played positively, and played consistently”,
Van der Struijk was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
The versatile defender then went on praise his coach, John van den Brom, and insisted that the new coach has really gelled together this team effectively.
“John has done really well here. He asked me that which position you can perform at your best, and since then, I have settled at the right back position”, Van der Struijk added.
When asked about his future plans, he coolly replied that he will look into that when his new contract is set to expire.
“I will be 29 when my contract will expire here. Perhaps, then it will be a good decision financially to move abroad”, Van der Struijk concluded.
