Guus Hiddink’s side cruised to a 2-0 win over the Eredivisie outfit in the first-leg of UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, and the former PSV Eindhoven boss admits that his troops failed to perform after the break.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fred-c14136 Rutten, has expressed utter disappointment following his side’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Anzhi Makhachkala in the first-leg of the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round. The two sides met at Stadion Saturn Ramenskoye
on Thursday, August 2.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven boss insisted that his team commenced the proceedings brightly, but admitted that they failed to assert their authority after the half-time break.
“We had control, both offensively and defensively. We had some great goalscoring opportunities as well. But after the break, we were never in control of the match. The difference between the first and second-half was great. Everyone would have easily seen
that the boys were extremely exhausted in the final stages of the game”, Rutten was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The Arnhem outfit started the match brightly, and came close to breaking the deadlock early on in the game. However, Anzhi goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vladimir-Gabulov-c36341, made a couple of decent saves to restrict the visiting side from finding the back of the net.
As the match progressed, the Wild-Division started to stage better showing, but failed to break the deadlock until the half-time break.
The home side resumed action impressively in the second-half, and took the lead in the 63rd minute through Oleg Shatov. The 22-year-old made a decent run down the right flank, before cutting in and unleashing a powerful left-footed low drive that
found the bottom right corner of the net.
Eleven minutes later, Fedor Smolov doubled his side’s advantage to seal a 2-0 win in favour of Anzhi Makhachkala.
The two sides will meet in the return leg at GelreDome Stadion on August 9, and Rutten has expressed optimism that his side can overturn the deficit.
“We are confident of achieving a good result. It will not be easy, but this team has always secured good results at home”, the Dutch trainer concluded.
