Vitor Belfort: I am a legend, I am not a diva – UFC News
Vitor Belfort is scheduled to fight UFC light-heayweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 152, which takes place on September 22 this year. While most analysts are believing Vitor Belfort is too old to face a raging champion like Jones, Belfort believes his experience
will be his major tool in defeating Jones.
“I'm an old lion, I have tricks, you know what I mean?” said Belfort in his recent interview.
“I'm a legend. I'm a legend, I'm not a diva, that is why i take this fight. I'm ready man, I'm ready to bring what people like what the fans like, what UFC likes, what its all about. That's the UFC, its not boxing. We can not let the UFC become like boxing.
This is the UFC, it's different, its all about the sport. I live for that. I'm one of the guys that helped build the sport so, I'm privileged to fight Jon Jones.”
Belfort currently stands with 21 wins and 9 losses, whereas Jones stands with 17 wins and 1 loss in his portfolio. It is apparent that Belfort has more in-ring experience than Jones. However, it should be noted here that Jones is considered as the best mixed
martial artist of all times, even better than middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Recently, Jones was offered a fight against Chael Sonnen, who is making his comeback at the light heavyweight division. Jones was originally scheduled to fight Dan Henderson, but due to a leg injury suffered by the latter, the card was cancelled. Dana White
made a quick decision of replacing Dan Henderson with Chael Sonnen but Jones declined the idea.
Similarly, for UFC 152, Shogun Rua was the first consideration for the showdown but he declined. Later on, White decided to give Lyoto Machida another opportunity at the title but Jones declined saying Machida was his lowest payout last year so it’s a lose-lose
situation for him. Therefore, finally Vitor Belfort came in the scene as Jones opponent.
As of now, Vitor Belfort is confirmed to face Jones at UFC 152. There is not much time left for White to make any changes now.
