Vitor Belfort reveals he wanted to save UFC 151 – UFC News
Following UFC 151’s cancellation, many major fighters have been making headlines. Among all, two fighters, Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, revealed they wanted to save the show. While Silva made a statement saying, he could have performed at the show for
his own division, Vitor Belfort revealed he offered to fight Jones.
“When I heard the show was going to get cancelled, I offered myself. I text Lorenzo, ‘Lorenzo, you know me, I come from the old school, I just start my camp, if you need me to save the show to fight Jones, not to fight anybody else, because that's what people
want to see, they want to see Jones fight,” revealed Vitor.
“If somebody got hurt, if you need me, just let me know. They trust me so much and I am a different type of guy, I accomplished so much things, I come from the old school and they know me, I am down to replace, I am used to that,” he added.
Jon Jones was originally scheduled to face Dan Henderson at UFC 151. However, just eight days before the show, President of UFC Dana White revealed Henderson had suffered a severe leg injury due to which he was unable to fight. White immediately tried to
use Chael Sonnen as Henderson’s replacement but Jones declined the offer.
According to Jones, he would not fight anyone on just an eight-day notice. Similarly, for UFC 152, Jones was initially being scheduled to fight Shogun but the latter refused. Then, White chose Lyoto Machida as Jones’ opponent but the champion refused to
fight Machida, saying Machida was his lowest payout of last year.
Now, Jones will be fighting Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 which takes place on September 22 this year.
As of now, Dana White is extremely disappointed with Jon Jones. According to White, Jones was responsible for the card’s cancellation, as he refused to fight Sonnen. White believes had Jones accepted the challenge, many fighters on the undercard would have
been able to earn that night. Jones has already apologised to the fans and the undercard fighters. However, the champion said that he has to do what is best for him.
