Vitoria Guimarães have lost their prestige since I’ve left, says former president Pimenta Machado
Former Vitoria Guimarães president Pimenta Machado has claimed that the extraordinary general meeting held to oust the current hierarchy is a charade. He also said that since his departure the club has been in decline.
The Branquinhos are currently undergoing a difficult period in the fledgling season. Not only are they languishing at the bottom of the Primeira Liga table, they have only won a single game in the 2011/2012 campaign.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Basílio-c7361 Marques’ men are likely to be relegation candidates and unless they start gathering some points, they will be playing in the Liga da Honra next term.
However, this has not always been the case with Vitoria. The club clinched 5thplace last term and in the process also qualified for the rigours of the UEFA Europa League.
They were then woken up with a jolt by Atletico Madrid, who hammered six unanswered goals past the hapless side over two legs.
Once being the biggest club in Guimarães, Vitoria have had to give up their status and sink into 2nd place behind SC Braga. With the situation becoming more perilous every week, the officials decided to call a general meeting and sack the current
hierarchy.
Having faced the same kind of treatment, Pimenta Machado claims that this fully unjustified and that the club, which scaled new heights under his stewardship, has now sunk into mediocrity.
Speaking to reporters, the former president said that under his tutelage Vitoria had become a top side in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 but are now on a decline.
"This is a travesty. The problem is not new, it is eight years old. Since I left, Vitoria has lost prestige, respectability and credibility.
“The club is dominated by riffraff who have no word, and therefore are in the shadows. When I was there, Vitoria was the first club of Minho but they now look up and see http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Braga-c40460,” Pimenta Machado was quoted as saying.
Although the road to scale their previous heights is an arduous one, Vitoria Guimarães will have the opportunity to do it once again after the International break against Olhanense.
