Vivian Hoo, Khe Wei tread into pre quarter-finals of 2012 Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold
Women’s Doubles partners Vivian Hoo Kah Mun and Woon Khe Wei forged a fruitful chemistry and cleared the first hurdle in the Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold on November 28, 2012.
They overpowered Aparna Balan-Siki Reddy N. of India by registering a favourable result of 21-11 and 21-18.
This crucial tussle prolonged to 34 minutes in the local badminton arena of Macau and both teams entertained the crowd with their mesmerising performance.
However, the Malaysian campaigners proved themselves superior in all departments of the game and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
Vivian Hoo and Khe Wei took some time to get on the right track but they never looked back after gaining the required momentum.
They played with a cautious approach in the beginning of first set and remained equal until 3-3 total.
At this stage, the Indian players lost focus and allowed their competitors to establish a notable lead.
Vivian Hoo and Khe Wei did not fritter away this opportunity and placed a respectable margin of 7-3. They carried this flow in the next couple of rallies and managed to finish first half of the set with 11-8 score on the board.
Later part of the game proved a dead contest as Aparna-Siki hardly put any resistance and knelt down tamely.
On the other hand, the Malaysian female shuttlers showed consistency in their performance and bagged this vital match point with a staggering knock of 21-11.
Unexpectedly, the second set of match kept the audience glued to their chairs until the last shot was played.
Both teams put up a commendable show of skills and earned a great deal of admiration for their honest effort.
Initially, the Indian campaigners showed elevated craft and gained an early advantage. They maintained a decent edge all the way to one-minute interval and put their opponents under huge pressure.
However, Vivian Hoo and Khe Wei did not lose their nerve and counter-balanced the situation with a strong backlash.
They levelled the score at 14-14 and then swept the table with a significant margin of 21-18. This win took them in the pre quarter-finals where Wang Pei Rong-Wen Kuo Yu of Chinese Taipei will be waiting for them.
