Vivian Hoo impressed by charismatic Lee Chong Wei’s abilities – Badminton news
The Malaysian female doubles expert Vivian Hoo is spell bound by the charismatic Lee Chong Wei’s craft in mixed doubles event in the Selangor Open.
Vivian had a dream debut in mixed doubles by making bond with the maestro Lee Chong Wei in the Selangor Open which ended on Sunday in Bukit Kiara but she still cherishes the fond memories.
She did not fade away under World Number one Lee Chong Wei’s shadow and registered her presence by putting up a great show in his company and sealed the mixed doubles title in the event.
But she stayed grounded and humbly gave the whole credit to her partner.
She said, “It is an honour to play with him. Chong Wei was doing all the work and he covered the court well. I did not have to do much work.”
On the final day of the Selangor Open, Vivian and Chong Wei bagged the honour by beating Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying in the mixed doubles event.
Vivian had all the reasons to smile as she also claimed the crown in women’s doubles event with her partner Woon Khe Wei. However, this victory could not grasp the attentions properly as all the limelight was stolen by the first time mixed doubles finalist
duo Vivian-Chong Wei.
The Malaysian girl never reached in the top two of the event before, but Lee Chong Wei’s support fetched the best for her.
Vivian said, “He knew how to enjoy the game and yet be able to play good badminton. He did not buckle under pressure although all the attention was on him. He encouraged me when I made mistakes. That is very important in doubles – to support one another.”
The 21-year-old Vivian Hoo is now determined to use this valuable experience to elevate her performance in the German Open where she will start the marathon with her doubles partner Woon Khe Wei in the qualifying round today.
The World Number 18 Malaysian ladies are scheduled to play against the Russians Nina Vislova-Valeri Sorokina in the opening match. They will have to put all they got to surpass the Russian duo, which is currently placed one step higher in women’s doubles
world ranking than the Malaysian female couple.
