Aston Villa have agreed personal terms with summer target http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Vlaar-c31697. The Dutch defender had been linked with the English club since the start of the summer transfer window and is expected to sign a three-year contract with the club.
The Dutch defender will become the third signing of the summer for Villa boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brett-Holman-c8047 and Karim El-Ahmadi, as he is set to arrive at Villa Park this week. The latter was Vlaar’s teammate at Feyenoord,
and the Dutchman will be relishing the reunion with the Moroccan midfielder.
The club agreed personal terms with the player and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 three days ago and are expected to announce his signing this week, pending the results of a medical. The agreed fee is reported to be £3.2 million.
Vlaar played for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Sneijder-c36799. The centre-half completed
a medical at Bodymoor Heath yesterday and will sign a three-year deal at Villa Park.
He had met manager Paul Lambert for talks before Aston Villa flew out for their pre-season tour of the United States, and it was understood that the talks had not progressed as both player and manager would’ve like them to. There were doubts about the move,
with the player himself expressing uncertainty about his future.
Villa returned from the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 last week on Thursday and were quick in meeting with the player’s representatives and commenced negotiations with Feyenoord. It is understood that the club had inserted a release clause in the Vlaar’s contract which
allowed him to leave Feyenoord for free.
Speaking about his switch, the centre-half said:
"It's a strange feeling to leave Feyenoord, but it's a dream come true to play in the Premier League. We spoke again today and sorted some things out. It was a lively conversation and Aston Villa apologised for the way they acted in the last weeks."
Aston Villa have spent over £7million this summer ever since Lambert was appointed as manager. Vlaar has made 132 appearances for Feyenoord, scoring 8 goals and has won the KNVB Cup with the side in 2008.
