Question:

Vlad The Impaler-family?

Well I am blood-related to the infamous Vlad Tepe. My cousin, whose last name is Tsepesh, is directly descended. We are both wondering if anyone else is related to, or knows anything about or relating to this guy? Neither of us is close with family. Only her mother knew some of the other remaining relatives (we think), but she is passed so she can't help us. ANYTHING that might even lead us in the right direction... please let me know, thanks! And please, I am not referring to the fictional Dracula...

  1. Well I'm not sure if she was related, but I've heard stories of a "female Dracula" - someone who was rather like Vlad the Impaler was supposed to be, except more cruel, if you could believe it. I think she was a countess...maybe you should look her up. I hadn't heard about her in history class before, but I think she was a real person. I'm fascinated by Vlad, and how his legend turned into this fictional Dracula we hear so much about today...lucky you! :)

  2. Last I heard the cousin side of the family Tespes, the family Vlad faught against inherited the title over the years.  And now that Romania and Transylvania is no longer communistic, the family Tepes deeds and land were returned to this same family.  I wish I could remember the name, it was something that was Romaianish beginning with and "R" and ended with an -eau at the end, although I believe the heir has a hyphenated name such as Tepes-Resc****eau.  There was a recent interview with the inheriting heir with BBC recently (in the last 5 years) that NBC and the history channel rebroadcasts frequently.  The heir currently lives in England with no desire to return to Romania.....at least at that time, the time of the interview.

If you and your cousin are indeed deeply related to Vlad, I would suggesst you do your homework, research your heritage and provide absolute proof so your family can lay claim to parts of the land ownership.  (There is a lot)  But also beaware that if you make a false claim you will be labeled as a pretender, so do this project with discreet decantur.

Please be aware that with the numoerous wars the area has seen the title bounced back and forth for many generations, and it may not be the Tepes family who rightly deserves the current land owning tags.

If I recall correctly, the last known living descendant to inherit "the throne" to so to speak was Princess Katharina Olympia Caradja.

She had adopted a son named Otto Berbig, aka Ottomar Rudolphe Vlad Dracula Prince Kretzulesco who is alive and well and owns a castle in Brandenburg.

You may want to contact him. He seems to be a history buff when it comes to the family.
