Vladimir Ivanov, Valeria Sorokina move into semi-finals of 2013 Russian National Championships
Mixed Doubles partners Vladimir Ivanov and Valeria Sorokina showed superb coordination in the quarter-final round and gained access to the semi-finals of Russian National Championships on January 30, 2013.
The locked horns with a compatriot duo Anatoly Yartsev-Eugene Kosecki and both teams remained head-to-head for 36 minutes.
They challenged each other in all areas of the game and finished this tussle with a nerve-racking result of 18-21, 21-16 and 21-12.
Though, the top seeded pair of the tournament was bit off colour in the opening game but then the prime Russian shuttlers switched on the best and locked the honour.
Anatoly and Eugene, who raised their chances after winning first set, could show consistency in their performance and crashed out in a disgraceful manner.
They amazed every one with a splendid show of badminton skills in the opening game and earned great deal of admiration.
They showed their intention straight away in the beginning and bagged many valuable point s in a row.
This intensive attack confined Vladimir and Valeria in the rear court and they failed to end their lower ranked challengers’ supremacy.
Anatoly and Eugene maintained an upper hand all the way to game pint situation and wrapped this segment of the showdown with a favourable score of 21-18.
However, things were not that much easy for them in the following game as the suppressed duo of first set stormed back with a strong reply.
This time Vladimir and Valeria did not repeat their previous mistakes and established a decent lead without any delay.
They capitalised this early advantage and put their competitor under huge pressure with figure of 11. This psychological edge helped them in latter part of game and they levelled the match score with 21-16 margin.
The third set proved a one-sided affair as the top seeded pair of the event served notice of its dominance with a staggering knock.
Vladimir and Valeria started the beating just before the half time and kept on playing with authoritative approach until the final stage.
They registered an overwhelming total of 21-12 and setup their semi-final clash with another Russian duo Eugene Dremin-Anastasia Chervyakova.
