Vladimir Ivanov ousts Akshit Mahajan in Men’s Singles qualifying round at India Open Super Series
Russia’s Vladimir Ivanov found a good start in the qualifying round when he defeated India’s Akshit Mahajan at the India Open Super Series 2012 at New Delhi, India, on Tuesday, April 24.
The Russian was impressive in the court as he did not take much time in getting familiar with court condition and won against the local shuttler by playing remarkable badminton.
Ivanov was very smooth in the court as he did not face any trouble in the entire match and easily bagged victory with a comprehensive score on the board.
On the other hand, Mahajan could not live up to expectations as he failed to cheer the home fans and crashed out in the opening match of qualifying round.
In the opening set, Ivanov started to dominate the pace and manoeuvred his opponent in all areas of the court.
He was adept in employing variations in his shots and managed to keep an upper hand over his young Indian opponent.
In the meanwhile, Mahajan showed a spirited display as he executed powerful shots in all areas of his Russian opponent who was playing positive badminton.
Until the break in the opening set, Ivanov was slightly ahead on the score board.
After the one-minute interval, Ivanov changed his tactics and managed to take a reasonable lead as his opponent became slow in the court.
Ivanov did not miss any chance to stretch his lead and he bagged the opening game in a sensational manner by a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second set, Ivanov did not show any respect to his Indian rival as he took an early lead while remaining focused in the court. He was perfect in his shot selection and also executed his strokes in right areas.
The Russian remained on track until the one-minute interval where he was moving ahead of his opponent.
After the break, Ivanov continued playing impressive badminton without showing any sign of fatigue and easily took the second game with a one-sided score of 21-14.
The Russian emerged as the winner in his opening encounter of qualifying round with a 21-16 and 21-14 score on the board.
