Russia’s Vladimir Ivanov found a good start as he penetrated into Men’s Singles second round after beating France’s Mathieu Lo Ying Ping in first round of Finnish Open 2012 on Friday, March 30, in Finland.
Ivanov, who is sixth seed in the championship, had to employ all of his skills to dominate the pace of rallies and emerged as the winner against Mathieu with a tight margin.
On the other hand, the French showed an elevated performance in the battle but remained unlucky in both games as he lost both sets with a narrow difference.
In the first set, both men showed their incredible skills by playing to their maximum potential and remained in complete control of rallies.
They did not show any sign of slowing down the pace of rallies and were close until the 60-second break in the game.
After the interval, Ivanov tried to play with aggression but failed to dominate the game as his opponent was also in wonderful control.
Mathieu played to his maximum potential and did not let his Russian opponent to dictate the pace of rallies at any stage in the entire opening set.
Both men progressed equally and entered into the ending phase without managing any gap.
The score was 23-23 when Ivanov showed his maturity in the game and took two consecutive points by playing with precision. He clinched the first set with a tight 25-23 score on the board.
In the second game, both players again employed their hard-to-learn skills and remained successful in taking a wonderful lead in the game.
They remained on track in the opening half of second game as no one could dominate the pace of rallies.
However, after the interval, Ivanov played better game and started to dominate the pace of rallies but again failed to take advantage as his opponent also lifted up his level of play.
Ivanov played with precision at this crucial stage in second set and managed to bag it with a tight difference of 21-19.
The higher ranked Russian won this entertaining contest in straight sets with a 25-23 and 21-19 score on the board.
