Vladimir Malkov dominates Lukas Schmidt in final match of European Universities Games 2012
Men’s Singles campaigner Vladimir Malkov of Russia trounced Lukas Schmidt in the title match and claimed the crown in European Universities Games-Badminton Individual Tournament on July 17, 2012.
This battle for the throne held at Rafael Lozano badminton arena of Córdoba, Spain and both contenders exhibited supreme skills before reading concluding result of 21-18 and 21-10.
The Russian player, who plays for University of Saratov, sealed a splendid straight-set win after an exhausting exercise of 33 minutes.
On the other hand, Lukas Schmidt could not finish his campaign in favourable manner and lost the gold medal in the introductory edition of this tournament.
Vladimir Malkov started the ball rolling straight away in the beginning as he clinched first match point with a notable difference.
He played with great precision and proved himself technically and tactically superior to his lower ranked rival.
In first half of opening set, he launched a brisk attack and gathered four valuable points immediately after 4-3 score position.
The German shuttler could not withstand this intensive invasion and stayed down all the way to mid-game break.
Meanwhile, Vladimir accelerated the pace and left his challenger far behind by reaching a dominating position of 11-6.
Later part of the game was not a one-sided affair as Lukas Schmidt also showed his class in pressure situation and narrowed the gap with 13-15 margin.
However, this blistering campaign was not enough to burn down the Russian who wrapped the first set with decisive figure of 21-18.
The following game saw Vladimir at his best as he dominated from the very first shot to last one.
He did not give his competitor even a single chance to strike back and grabbed the honour with notable difference.
In the first half, he mounted pressure by gaining a four-point advantage in 7-3 and then capitalised this initial lead in the next couple of rallies.
Though, Lukas Schmidt strived hard to come out of this deficit but he could not hit the mark until one-minute break.
He kept trailing behind in the second half of the game which ultimately resulted in his woeful exit from the event.
Vladimir Malkov secured top spot on the victory stand by registering an overwhelming figure of 21-10.
