Vladimir Matyushenko set to dominate Alexander Gustafsson in Las Vegas – Preview: UFC 141
Las Vegas, Nevada is the venue where the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be hosting UFC 141. The event will take place on December 10, 2011.
One of the fights featured on the main card include the light heavyweight bout booked between Belarusian mixed martial art (MMA) Vladimir Matyushenko and Swedish MMA fighter Alexander Gustafsson.
According to some critics, Gustafsson may have an upper hand in the fight for he has lost only one fight in his entire career. Starting his professional MMA career in November 2007, he was undefeated in the first nine of his fights and then lost to Phil
Davis at UFC 112 in April 2010. Since then he is running on a three fight winning streak. Although he has a clear MMA record with a single defeat, he must not get overconfident while facing Matyushenko, who is a much experienced fighter.
The Belarusian MMA fighter made his MMA debut in September 1997 and has been a fighter for the past fourteen years. He has won twenty-six bouts with 5 losses. Gustafsson would be intimidated by the ability to raise mayhem by his opponent for he has not faced
much defeat in his career. The 40-year-old Matyushenko is 6ft tall and weighs 205 lbs (pounds).
His opponent, Gustafsson is 24-years-old and can use his young legs and arms to create difficulties for his opponents. Gustafsson also has a height advantage for he stands at 6ft 5in. He would have a wider reach in terms of punches and strikes but Matyushenko’s
greater physical strength can possible counter all of some of Gustafsson’s attacks.
While talking about attacks, Matyushenko has a thirty percent success rate with his striking moves but Gustafsson is not far behind as he has a twenty-three percent rate of success. Gustafsson would need to watch out Matyushenko’s takedowns for he can use
his muscle power to overpower a much younger opponent. An interesting this to note is that Matyushenko has seldom used his submission moves.
He has normally won his fights through knockouts, technical knockouts (TKO) and unanimous decisions. Matyushenko has a 7 percent winning rate with his submission moves while Gustafsson has a fifty-nine percent win rate with his submission tactics. This clearly
means that Gustafsson must stay away from Matyushenko’s punches and knee strikes for they will be powerful enough to put down Gustafsson for good. It would be an interesting match as two diverse fighters will meet in the UFC ring.
