The Biancocelesti played comparatively modest sides Siena and Torino in the last 24 hours, as a part of their summer training for the upcoming season, and lost both the matches with results at 1-0 and 3-0 respectively.
Petkovic stated that while he had adequate time to train with the boys, there was little motivation to win the games played for practice purposes.
The former Sion manager stressed upon the need for his team to keep working hard, and insisted that the defeats have only pointed out the mistakes that the players need to work on in the coming days.
The Biancocelesti manager pointed out that most of the goals conceded were due to their poor offside trap, and insisted that the team will work to remove that flaw before the start of the new season.
While talking to the press, the 48-year-old said:
“We have had 18 almost optimal days of training, or at least tried to win them. I hope the team continues to work like this and I am not remotely worried. On the other hand, it is better to see certain mistakes now, as in two games we conceded three goals
due to the offside trap.”
Petkovic went on to reveal that he is experimenting with different formation with his team, to get a better view of the off-the-ball movement of the players.
The Yugoslavian national voiced his preference of three strikers, and insisted that from now on he will start to train towards specifics regarding strategy and formation.
“I wanted to see how we moved without the ball. I have often played with three strikers in different positions, though. Now I have a clearer picture of the situation and from now on we will try to focus on specific systems.” He added.
