Vladimir Putin ensures financial security to Vitaly Petrov
Although the past two months brought a lot of stress for the driver, but now, the beginning of new season brings Vitaly Petrov some good news, as the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has announced to provide complete financial support to the driver.
The Russian driver can now finally heave a sigh of relief.
After the ending of the 2010 Formula One season, in the middle of November, Petrov’s team, Renault extended a contract with the other team driver Robert Kubica immediately but kept the Russian waiting. It took the team more than a month to finally decide
if they wanted the driver under the umbrella for another season or not. After a prolonged decision making period, finally, the French team announced to sign the driver for another two years.
However, bringing money to the team was also set as a part of the deal for Petrov, which he has fulfilled nicely with the support of his government. In 2010, the driver persuaded the state-run car company Lada to sponsor his team, while for the 2011 season,
the driver’s management has already secured a state-owned technology company called Rostekhnologii.
Putin has ensured all his help and assistance and has also announced maximum support of the government for the only driver of the country now in Formula One series. An extensive meeting with Petrov's manager, Oksana Kosachenko, was headed by the Prime Minister,
this Tuesday. The heads of all the leading Russian companies were summoned to join the table to conclude a new sponsorship package for the driver, to ensure no financial hurdles came Petrov’s way next year.
While talking to the reporters the Russian Prime Minister said, "The number of automobile sport lovers in Russia increases day by day. Petrov, who is very famous among Formula One fans here, has recently signed a new two-year contract with his team. He definitely
needs support. Financial support most of all."
The 26-year-old driver made his debut last year with the Renault team and stood as one of the best rookie drivers of the season. Although, he ended the season only at 13th place in the drivers’ charts with 27 points, yet the driver demonstrated
some great racing spectacles on the 2010 tracks. The last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix saw the results of 2010 championship change completely, owing to his great driving skills. For around 40 laps, the two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso
kept chasing Petrov who did not provide a single overtaking opportunity to the Spaniard, thus taking away his dream of another title. At the end of the day Alonso finished 7th, whereas he needed to end 3rd to bag the title, while Petrov
stood a place ahead of him.
