Voeckler amongst the favourites to win this year’s Tour de France
Thomas Voeckler is at the first position in overall classification and is likely to go and win this year’s Tour de France. The 32-year-old has put up a great fight with the favourite contenders in this year’s tour to attain his position and to lead in general classification.
Voeckler’s performance is praised by everyone as the Frenchman is leading his closest rival, Frank Schleck and Cadel Evans.
Voeckler is convinced that he absolutely has no chance of winning this year's Tour de France. Voeckler had some really good performances in the past, including two Tour stages, but has never been considered as a great climber. On his 32nd birthday, not more than a month ago, Voeckler seems to have recovered his strength.
At the end of stage 15, three-time former Champion, Alberto Contador, was asked about Voeckler on which he commented, “For sure Voeckler is a contender. His shape is unbelievable and he has the great support from his team.”
He further added “I am several minutes behind him and it will be hard to take them back.”
Voeckler said that he will continue the fight and will give his best shot, but no matter what, he will not be dishonest and will only accept what is rewarded for his efforts and he despite his first position at the general classification believes that he absolutely has no chances of winning the tour.
About the final Pyrenees stage Armstrong took the opportunity to comment on the favourite of the tour as he said, “If Voeckler makes it to the top with the leaders today then we have to say he can win TdF. He has got two minutes and they can’t shake him.”
Voeckler thinks that the last week will be pretty hard for him to maintain his lead as he said that the final stages have been designed to be crucial and it will decide the fate of the cyclists. He also mentioned that France is waiting for a Frenchman to win, but I do not want to give wrong hopes to people.
