Voice training...?

Question

I was riding in the car this morning listening to Mariah Carey, and something occurred to me. Can you train your voice to have a wider vocal range? I know the note Mariah Carey is known for would be nearly impossible, but could you at least work your voice up a little higher than your norm? Thanks.
