There is a dial tone, however on a regular basis, when I dial a number the line goes silent continuously however the person on the other end picks up the phone and speak - like prank caller. Which means I can't make phone calls sometimes for hours in a row - and drives me nuts as I then have to use and pay for normal phone call. Sometimes also the line goes fuzzy when i am connected/talking and the line drops out - Have dlink adaptor

  1. If you aren't using the Wireless-G functions of the Router, I suggest you use admin panel to "Turn-off" the Wireless feature, just to be safe from RFI or hacking.

If ATA LEDs are all OK and configuration is confirmed ok, then that should eliminate ATA as porblem (unless, it is malfunctioning)

If ATA is put in DMZ, with all ports open, but still not working, then that should eliminate Router port blocking issues.

I wonder if you can completely bypass your Router and directly plug ATA into the Modem and see it it will get IP and register with GoTalk.  This would totally eleminate any Router issues (including NAT traversal issues)?

Only other possibilites are that you have Internet connection or QOS issues.  Or, there are issues directly with GoTalk VoIP.

If you are allowed to reconfigure the ATA with another SIP VoIP service, you could then verify if it works the same or better with another BYOD (bring your own device) VoIP service.

All you would have to do is change the SIP Server Domain name and your login Username and PW for the alternate service. ( I do this with my Linksys PAP2T ATA with many different services)

If you want to try testing with another service, I can set you up with a free VoIP account with CallCentric or InPhonex for testing SIP-SIP calls directly with me.

See my profile for links to setup your own account, or email me and I will create a CallCentric account for you and send you login credentails for testing SIP-SIP calls.

Now that I think of it, your Belkin Router configuration may be the culprit (what model of Belkin modem/rouer?)

At the very minimum, you need to have your router port-forward port 5060.  If port 5060 is being blocked, your VoIP service will not work reliably.  So, you need to know how to open port 5060 on the router.  Or, to verify that port blocking is your problem, find out if you can set the router to turn on "DMZ" of for the Ehternet port, or the IP address of the VoIP adapter.  When the ATA is connected via the DMZ of your router, ALL ports are open in the DMZ.  If VoIP works when connected through DMZ, then that is verification that problem is "port blocking" caused by the router.  Do not leave equipment in DMZ for security reasons.... DMZ is only to do verification testing for short periods.

Some ATA's require more than port 5060 to be open.  For example, my Linksys PAP2T also requires RTP ports between 16384-16482 to also be triggered open when port 5060 is used.  (SIP port 5060 is used to setup VoIP sessions... RTP ports are used to carry the voice data packets...)  I'm suprised if GoTalk doesn't mention any other RTP ports to open???

Your problems are typical of router and ATA configuration problems.

Was the DVG2001S purchased from and preconfigured by GoTalk?

Check the adapter settings against their support page recommended:

    http://imagelibrary.gotalk.com.au/pdf/DV...

Monitor the LEDs for valid status.  If there is a connection issue, LED status may give you a clue as to what is awry.

If you are losing VoIP registration with GoTalk, then the ATA should show loss of registration.  This can be due to Router/ATA configuration issues or loss of Internet connection.

If you are losing Internet connection, your Modem/Router LED status should show loss of Internet connections.

    More information is needed:

    VoIP provider

Equipment used (Modem, Router, ATA,... separate or combo)

Is Router wired, or wireless (wireless G or N)

    Internet ISP (DSL or Cable)

Telephones (corded, or cordless - 1.9/2.4/5.8 GHz)

    More information, the better....
