Voléro ZÜRICH captures the Swiss Women’s National Title – Volleyball news
The women’s volleyball club of Switzerland, Voléro ZÜRICH once again went under huge spotlight on account of a breathtaking performance.
The wonderful squad of Voléro ZÜRICH settled for gold medal victory in the Swiss National League on Saturday, 9th April. They defeated against Sagres NEUCHATEL Université with the help of 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, and 25-21). It was the sixth consecutive title
win for the brilliant team of Voléro ZÜRICH. They successfully defended the title and maintained their dominance.
This is the same team, which represented Switzerland in the 2011 CEV Champions League. They worked out a great performance in the prelims of the mega European competition and clawed their way to the Playoffs 6.
However, they could not qualify for the final four round but they received a huge applause for putting up such a great effort. After getting the international exposure at Champions League, the team had earned a lot of experience. This is why they proved
to be the best team of the Swiss National league and seized the title trophy.
First set
Both finalist teams had undergone extensive training for this important match. The defending champions Voléro ZÜRICH opened the match on a high note. The ZURICH squad was equipped with a great player-line. It was mix bag of experienced and young players.
They put away the ball in opponents’ half and tried to take control of the game.
However, NEUCHATEL was fully prepared to take on the strong competitor. They produced good point-scoring shots and remained hand-in-hand with the ZURICH. The scoreboard showed the difference of just one point at the first technical timeout.
ZURICH was in lead, which proved to be great help for them. They used the one-point lead and further added points, in order to stretch the gap of points. Meanwhile, the ZURICH squad paid more attention to the defence side and barred the opponents to score
any points. NEUCHATEL side could only contributed 3 points, while ZURICH reached the 16 points at the second mandatory stop. They kept on moving at the same speed and closed first set with the final score of 25-19.
Second set
The performance of ZURICH further improved in the following set. They played confidently and dragged the opponents under pressure. The direction was already set for them and the Zurich squad came strong on NEUCHATEL.
The Zurich team picked up lead and added quick points to widen the difference of point. The offensive attack of Zurich totally devastated NEUCHATEL. The girls of Zurich jumped on every little opportunity and scored valuable points. The second was also dominated
by Zurich. NEUCHATEL tried to come out of blues but they remained unsuccessful. The second set declared the better status of Zurich, while NEUCHATEL was deep down in trouble.
Third set
The head coach of NEUCHATEL Philipp Schuetz had a word with his team and gave them a new plan. The team followed a new approach and managed to stand on their feet. They actually stopped a few of opponents’ swift spikes. The early part of third set was tight
affair as both teams exchanged quick shots. The hard work paid off and NEUCHATEL went up on the scoreboard. They led the game with 4 points at 16-12.
Nonetheless, Volero side bounced back and chased the score. The score was tied at 20-all before Zurich really sped up things and took lead. Zurich also won the third set and with that, the match.
