Volcan Poas vs Volcan Irazu, Costa Rica?

If you had to choose to visit only one, which one would you pick?

I've been to both and prefer Poas.

Just make sure you go in the morning when it's not cloudy.

The view to the Main Crater & Botos Lagoon is spectacular.

I prefer more the Volcan Poas, because there are a lot of nature during the travel while Volcan Irazú have a lot of potatoe plantations.

i'd go with Poas. Irazu is taller, so that you can see both coasts in theory, whereas Poas you can only see one.  But Irazu is much cloudier so you may not see anything.  Although, during the rainy season it will probably be clouded over at both.  In which case Poas is still better- at Irazu the clouds may be so thick even the crater may be blocked much of the time, plus Poas has a more interesting smoking crater, and it also has trails through the surrounding cloud forest and elfin forest, which Irazu doesn't have.

In either case, the earlier you get there, the better, clouds-wise.

I dont know much about Irazu, I always recommend Poas because you can stay near the La Paz Waterfall Gardens and go to the volcano early in the morning from there. I  recommend staying at Peace Lodge.

Poas by all means. The rest of the people have given you all the right reasons.

I would pick Volcan Poas because you have a chance to see an active volcano. Also, there is a lake in one of the older crater.

You visit both volcanos, both are different and very close to San Jose.
