Volei Master starts in Brazil today – Volleyball latest
The 8th edition of Brazilian ‘Volei Master’ Tournament started off today, Friday, November 11, in Brazil. The city of Saquarema in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil welcomed 168 men’s and women’s teams from every nook and cranny of the country. An excellent
sport environment has been set up at the Aryzao Brazilian Volleyball Development Centre in Saquarema, where participants of the event installed their bases. The colourful event is going to last from November 11 to 15.
Rio de Janeiro has most number of teams in both categories of the tournament. A total of 56 teams have been registered from Rio de Janeiro, while Minas Gerais has 40 teams in the competition. Sao Paulo and Espirito Santo have 40 and 23 teams, respectively.
On the whole, 71 men’s and 97 women’s are playing at the 2011 Volei Master in Brazil. Last year, only 128 teams joined the Volei Master Tournament. The increase in number of teams clearly shows the popularity and development of volleyball in the region.
Dr Ary Graça, the FIVB executive vice-president, CSV president and Brazilian Volleyball Federation president had his say about the wonderful tournament. He stated: “It is a big pleasure to, once again, be able to offer this moment to volleyball lovers. The
increase in entries shows the passion of the people to volleyball reinforces the event and means the Federation will continue with the Volei Master.”
Likewise, the superintendent of Brazilian Volleyball Federation, Mr Renato D´Avila, talked about the importance of Volei Master. He said it is a big festival and a chance for huge celebrations for volleyball followers. He recommended that people should actually
attend the event in order to get a taste of the festivity.
While local teams have gathered to fight for volleyball supremacy in Saquarema, the women’s national team of Brazil is competing at the 2011 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup in Japan, which is scheduled to complete its run on November 18. The men’s national
team is also staying out of the Volei Master Tournament as they are supposed to join the men’s World Cup at the end of this week. The 2011 FIVB Men’s World Cup will run from November 20 to December 4.
