Voler La Vedette to run in John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle
Trainer Colm Murphy has decided to run his star mare, Voler La Vedette in the John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle, set to be held at Gowran Park on Thursday, January 26, 2012.
The eight-year-old was all set to show her magic at Leopardstown this Sunday. However, the dry conditions at the venue promoted her trainer and connections to take their mare to Thursday’s competition.
Voler La Vedette is in a great rhythm at the moment. After winning the Grade 2 Lismullen Hurdle in November 2011, she clinched back to back victories in the Bar One Racing Hatton's Grace Hurdle and woodiesdiy.com Christmas Hurdle, last month.
On her Christmas outing, the mare outperformed the favourite, Mourad who was enjoying the odds of 4 to 5. She took a decent lead first up, and maintained her advantage till the end, sealing a comfortable 4 ¾ lengths win.
Her fans were expecting a brilliant performance in Sunday’s Grade 1 BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle, but the trainer decided to skip the race.
Murphy argued that two miles of solid surface would be against her charge and therefore, he took her to Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle.
In the three-mile competition, the mare will face only four rivals including Zaidpour, Benash, Chicago Grey and Whatuthink.
On his decision, Murphy said: "They still haven't had any rain at Leopardstown and the weather has made up our minds to run (on Thursday) instead. She's settling so well in her races now and showed she stays three miles well when she won over Christmas.
This looked a better opportunity for her than running on Sunday, but there is no easy option and it's a proper little race.”
"She seems to have come out of her last race well and we'll see what happens. It will tell us a lot more about where we're going with her," added the experienced trainer.
Despite the fact that, Voler La Vedette, is in good form at the moment, it will not be an easy outing for her, especially with Zaidpour in the line-up. The Willie Mullins-trained horse did a fine job during his first two starts this season, and is
likely to do well on Thursday evening.
