Volga Nizhny Novgorod defender, Lasha Salukvadze, has revealed the optimism amongst the squad members ahead of the clash against Rubin Kazan in round 15 of the Russian premier league.
Salukvadze revealed that the mood of the squad is good overall but they still need to work very hard to climb up the league table. Their last match saw them slip-up against Zenit St. Petersburg, who managed to score two goals away from home at Lokomotiv
Stadium.
The 29-year-old Georgian footballer who has seven international caps to his name, bemoaned the team performance in their last match and revealed that the outfit will do everything win over the travelling fans, who are looking forward to better results.
The defender understands the team is not good enough to play against the champions and beat them.
“I think it's hard to expect that we will score goals in a match against a team at such a high level. We are bound by hurdles about which we have already talked to the coach and we will work on it in the future.” He said.
Salukvadze, who has made 13 starts for his club this season, highlighted the fact that the team is training really hard and paying attention to different tactics under the new coach.
The Georgian defender revealed an interesting fact about his contract that runs out next year. Salukvadze cannot feature against Rubin Kazan, his former club, as per the condition set by the Rubies.
Volga recently dismissed Omari Tetradze following a disappointing loss against Krasnodar, and Dmitry Cheryshev was appointed as his successor. As things stand, Volga are nearing the bottom end of the league table and a win against Rubin Kazan at Tsentralnyi
Stadium would definitely be a welcome result.
